Here Comes The Hair
How to get beautiful locks in any season

Big-day beauty calls for pre-aisle prep. From bridal boot camp to multiple dress fittings, the work for the wedding day look starts months before saying, 'I do.' But don't only focus on your bod - you hair should look equally as beautiful.
Weddings happen all year-round, but the prep work should change with the season. Match your hair care to the calendar to ensure an all-weather style.
Wild is the Wind
Winter and springtime vows make for sentimental moments but call for special attention. "Dry winds and cold air ... can make any hairstyle into the 'Bride of Frizzenstein,'" says celebrity hair and makeup artist David Maderich. To combat the effects of the cold on your coif, he suggests limiting the use of shine-stealing styling tools like flat irons, blow dryers and curling irons. "Too much heat robs hair of moisture and lack of moisture means dull, dry hair." What if your look calls for a classic blowout? To ensure a shiny finish for a recent cover shoot, Maderich turned supermodel Gisele Bündchen's naturally curly hair silky smooth by reaching for a silicone serum. Quench winter hair at home by smoothing conditioner under a shower cap before bedtime. "It's eight hours of deep conditioning," says Maderich.
Summer Lovin'
It may be the perfect season for a wedding, but the sun and swimming can sabotage a bride's style. Just as you would for your skin, "always use a leave-in conditioner with a high SPF to protect your tender tresses from the sun's harmful rays," advises Maderich. When taking a dip after lounging poolside, he also suggests wearing a swim cap. "And for extra shine, coat hair with a deep conditioner before slipping on the cap for a quick deep-conditioning treatment."
Let Love Shine
Radiate light with an at-home trick Maderich recommends, "Keep a spray bottle filled with vinegar and water in your shower and give your tresses as spritz during your final rinse for shine, shine and more shine." Put color treatments on hold for a few months before the big day to give your hair a break from the chemicals and to restore natural nutrients. One chemical cure that gets the green light? "To guarantee healthy shiny hair for your trip down the aisle, opt for a 'no-color' salon shine treatment two days before the ceremony," suggests Maderich.
All Natural
Fruits and vegetables benefit more than your body. All-natural products take center stage and put the spotlight back on hair. Maderich mixes organics into his daily work. Amongst his picks? "Yes To Carrots has a great product line at great value that you can pick up at any drugstore."
As Maderich believes, "You can have the best dress, the best makeup, but as any gal knows, if you hair isn't right, nothing else matters." Showering your locks with love before walking down the aisle keeps hair healthy well after you cross the threshold.
